1/32 Hasegawa P-26A... Finished (with glamour shots)

Postby ericg » Sun Dec 01, 2013 11:39 am

To prevent me from going crazy with the hard slog of the Mirage build, I have been playing around with the ancient Hasegawa P-26. For its age it is actually a very nice kit and it is one that you don't see too often. I plan on building this as much out of the box as possible (hopefully the fun police don't get involved this time!) The biggest challenge will be to keep the raised detail as I wish to keep it as original as possible.

Here are the cockpit components painted and assembled. I have refrained from adding anything here, even though there is some scope to add some wiring etc. I have also kept the painting pretty basic, with a bit of dry brushing and a wash using Florys excellent wash fluid.

Here is the IP with formula 500 canopy glue applied to the instrument dials, still curing.

The challenge...... smoothing the seam line with getting rid of too much detail. By the way, the surface detail on the kit is really quite exquisite.

The wing to fuse joint shouldn`t need to much sorting out at all.

Nice. I really like your interior details.

I look forward to trying the white glue technique for the dials on my next build.

Here is the front engine cover, which is white in the scheme that I have chosen. I painted this part white with Tamiya white primer and then polished it with a buffing wheel in the dremel.

Looks great Eric. I have this in my stash and have wanted to pull it out for months to make a start. Lovely little plane. Will wait to see how you go with yours. Can't wait to see it done.

So fast forward almost 5 years and I dug this one out of its box and finished it just in time for this years Model Expo in Melbourne.

Sorry for no further WIP pictures but I needed to get it done. I built this one out of the box with the only addition being the rigging. I used the Yellow Wings Stencil data, roundels and Thunderbirds logo with all other elements of the scheme being masked and painted.

I will do some studio photos once the dust of expo clears.

It really is a nice kit isn't it? That is my favourite scheme for this aircraft. When I did mine I couldn't find any decals so chose the blue and yellow scheme with Red trim. You have done a fabulous job Eric.
