Tiffie - Finished & On Display.

Postby RAAFBrat » Sat Sep 15, 2018 8:31 pm

And on to the next project. After the battle to finish the Seafire & Lancer, plus all the dramas away from modelling, I needed a quick simple build as therapy & this very old Monogram 1/48 Typhoon fit the bill. Now considering that the kit only cost me around $5.00, the PE was a tad expensive at $19.00 & then I discovered that it was missing a main wheel - which were pretty crappy anyway. So another $10.00 later for a couple of resin wheels..................... This aftermarket stuff can get outta hand :D . So when I came across a set of "Sharkmouth" decals for $14.00 I thought about it, but......................................The kit decals are stamped "1990", look ok & I usually don't have trouble with Monogram decals so I'll try them first. This is as far as I've got so far.

I built this kit many years ago and loved it. I was surprised at how well it went together. I didn't have all the bits and bobs you have added. I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Thanks Noel. Yes, for a 1990 issue of a '69 mold - it's fitting together brilliantly. Far better than my last 2 Airfix kits. But I have always liked the Monograms. :)

Update on Tiffie. As I hoped, this is proving a quick build as I got her closed up today, with wings & tail-planes on also. Just about ready for paint.

As I hoped, the Tiffie was a quick build. A good thing as we head off interstate tomorrow for a couple of weeks.

If I might present the little-known stable-mate of & successor to Hawker Hurricane V7476, sent like it's little brother to Australia as an evaluation machine when Hawker's was looking for more sales & reacted to RAAF's purchase of Spitfire Vc's & VIII's. Sadly, nothing came of it, especially as the RAAF's role turned more to ground-attack as the war progressed.

Kit is the ancient Monogram 1/48 with Eduard cockpit PE & High-Planes resin wheels. Paint is Tamiya acrylics, the Silver is British Paints "Paint & Prime" Metallic Silver spray-can, with Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Lacquer spray-can over that. I came to the Tamiya after trying both British Paints & Dulux Gloss sprays on test parts only to have it "grey" the paint down. Decals from the spares box.

For a 1990 release of a 1969 model, it went together really easily. A couple of fit issues if you look closely but not bad for such an old kit.

Thanks guys. It was a fun build. Maybe I should do my P-47 in camouflage as payback? :D
