Tamiya 1/48 Beaufighter Mk Ic 30 SQN RAAF - Finished

Postby harvs73 » Sun Sep 10, 2017 8:33 pm

I have started my next project of the 1/48 RAAF Beaufighter Mk Ic. It is going to be in TSS colours and I will be using DK Decals set for A19-54 for it. I am using the Red Roo tail planes for the Mk Ic and have a variety of other items form there I may be using as well. This is a quick(as if) build so I won't be worrying about the interior so it has been put together today to the level as per the image below. I had previous intentions of using it for something else, hence the drawing on the engines, and had painted the insides interior green so it has been easy to put together so far.

The 1/48 Beaufighter is taking shape now. I am going for A19-54 using the DK Decals markings and doing it in TSS. The Red Roo Models flat tail planes are now on after some fitting as they don't match the kit tail plane slot, but they do look the part. I am using the short carburetor intake supplied in the kit though the aircraft around -54 seem to have either short or long intake.

The AWM has a few images of the aircraft in question after the pilot tried to take out a Japanese flag pole with his wing tip. This and a few others are providing detail for what I need to do to the base kit.

That's a top kit. I'm tempted to get another to do as RAAF to add to my NF. But I HAVE promised my long-suffering Wife that I'd buy no more kits until I'd built the ones I already have ;).

The first coat of Sky is on the Beaufighter, once it dries thoroughly it will be sanded back with some very fine wet and dry then a thin coat of Sky will be sprayed for the second coat.

If you don't mind me asking what grade of wet and dry are you going to use? As an aside it's coming together nicely.

Sean, I use 1200 or greater to sand it a little. Today I used 2000 grit wet and dry to smooth it out a bit in an effort to assist with the decals going on better.

The masking is done and the EDSG is sprayed on and I am waiting for it to dry properly before masking the top for the DSG. I am going for the low demarcation between the top and underneath colours as this what the photographs have it as.

The upper cam scheme is now on after I sprayed it with Humbrol Hu224 and Hu117.
