A flying (pun intended) visit to Lanud Sultan Hasanuddin

Postby Biggles81 » Thu Sep 06, 2018 2:55 pm

Yesterday afternoon after a couple of hours at a Cement Company (a whole other story) I was able to swing by Lanud Sultan Hasanuddin and have a look at the TNI-AU Flankers of Skadron Udara 11.

Cement company? Hitting all the glamour spots!

Any comments from the troops re serviceability?
I'm not older than dirt, but I do remember when it was new.

Got to love cement - its driving economic growth in this part of the world - as steel was two weeks ago at the Steelworks in West Java :? .

As for serviceability - I understand its never been particularly good but the airframes are cycling through maintenance and upgrades in Belarus at the moment. 27-001 and 27-002 have just been upgraded to SKM status (as opposed to SMK for the later single seaters, with the AAR probe) after a long period sitting idle. If I am not mistaken it looks like 30-009 needs some AOG love too.

I only got to speak to two pilots (both Lieutenants), one trained on Russia and one in America but both very positive about their experience on type.

Thanks Calum, look nicer in original form, seems Imgur reduces the quality somewhat. Amazing what you can do with an iPhone in your pocket.

I have added a few more shots from the visit just now too.

Always like the TNI-AU Su-27/30s. I built the Academy kit as TS27-001 back in 2003 not long after they first arrived in Indonesian service:

Funny I noted back then that the maintenance stencilling was reported to be a mix of Russian and poorly translated English - now having got right up close to, under and around these aircraft I can confirm this is indeed true.
