Modern Australian OPFOR camouflage uniform

Postby harvs73 » Mon Jun 24, 2013 9:32 pm

This uniform was used during the 1990's as an Opposing Force uniform.

During the late 1990s a modified Auscam colour scheme was trialled to be used for OPFOR units during force vs force training exercises. This pattern was in the same style as the standard DPCU but in tones of red and brown, supposedly resembling a "Russian" style pattern. Colours used were: dark brown, mid-brown, light brown and blood red, all on a tan background. It was used sparingly during several exercises but not issued widely due to the cost associated with fielding a separate uniform with only minor colour changes solely for use as an OPFOR uniform and as such was withdrawn from official service in 1998. OPFOR DPCU was found to be very effective in the red sands of some Australian deserts.

I've seen the Kamarians and Musorians wearing DPDU of late?
I'm not older than dirt, but I do remember when it was new.

The US three colour desert cams have also been used as Enemy cams, I had to wear them during 2001 on Ex at Shoalwater Bay when 1 Brigade played 'enemy' for 3 Brigade. The hat below is the US Cam we had to wear.

Almost all the 'enemy' on major exercises (and minor ones) are wearing DPDU or occasionally the 3 colour BDU...

ADGs at the last airshow were in 'tiger stripe' cams that they use for OPFOR
