My D-I-Y Painting Turntable For $11.16

Postby jimmac » Tue Oct 18, 2011 2:45 pm

Visited my local Bunnings store this morning (Tue, 18th) simply to browse and get some "me time". Whilst there, I purchased three good-sized MDF offcuts and two pairs of small PLATE castors.

Cost:
3 x 18mm MDF = $5
2 x Plate Castors = $6.16

I cut the smallest piece of MDF in half and, with a compass, drew a circle leaving plenty of space to the edges. I then positioned and screwed the plate castors. Next, I measured from the centre mark of the compass pin to the outside of one castor turned to its broadest point and again using the compass set to that measurement marked a circle on the second piece of MDF. Then some "liquid nails" to stick fly-screen spline just outside the pencilled line and I had my D-I-Y turntable. The "liquid nails" should (Murphy's Law notwithstanding  ) retain the top plate in place should the castors rotate excessively.

$11.16 + 1 hour + materials previously on-hand = a good morning's work.

Will do Wally, probably tomorrow. Need to purchase new batteries for my digi camera.

Wally
"Liquid Nails" has reacted negatively with flyscreen spline. Plan B will be initiated tomorrow morning and will post when complete.
It's fairly straightforward.

Regards.

All that is required to complete my turntable is to manufacture a "skirt" from a cereal box to minimize overspray on the castors, etc.

Well done Damo
Provided they are inexpensive and work, what the heck hm? My spray booth is a large cardboard box (lined with black plastic) which held our coffee machine at delivery - works for me!! :)

My solution is no where near as neat or evolved!

Spray Booth - Large cardbard box, with extra cardboard Gaffa'd on to make a little shelf in front and a piece of cloth I can drop down the opening if need be!

Painting Turn Table - a piece of Melamine/Chipboard Shelf, with a few blocks of 3inch thick High Density Foam to position things on. Moved very manually! ;)
