Canopy painting without masking tape

Sometimes you have to paint canopies without masking tape, and no matter how hard you try, the result is always a total failure.

You can get rid of the excess paint without scratching the clear part by using a wooden tooth pick. Just let the paint dry first and then work with a calm and steady hand.

I always struggled no matter what technique I used. I started to do "Desktop" style models where the canopies are just painted a solid colour. I found it easier and I think it looks better too. The frames are still usually painted the colour of the plane.
