Tamiya Acrylics

Postby PanzerJoe » Fri Oct 16, 2020 1:28 pm

Hi fellas I was wondering where everyone buys their Tamiya paints? I used to be able to get them for about $3.50 but now I cant find any for under 4 bucks.

Thanks Joe

Yeah I was getting them at toyworld for 3.50 until recently they changed to $4. Might be able to get a bargain and get a bulk deal ;) , but 4 bucks isnt too bad compared to other brands I guess.

It's been a few years but I've bought lots from here....

https://www.sealmodel.com/products.php?category_id=86

Buy a kit then he puts the paint inside the box. Obviously the bigger the kit the more paint he can fit in! This saves heaps on shipping. He also sells 23ml bottles which seem impossible to find in Oz now.

His packaging is exceptional & each bottle of paint is in its own ziplock bag!

So $104.18 for a Tamiya 1/32 F-15C plus each bottle of 10ml paint $2.08.

However the shipping costs are now pretty steep. Previously he's sent a confirmation email suggesting different methods etc before payment so that's been good.

This only really works out cheaper than BNA ($3.95 per 10ml bottle) if you specifically want 23ml bottles or you're buying 20+ bottles at once.

HTH

What do you use to thin Tamiya acrylics for spraying? I use straight Metho for Gunze and it works well, but it doesn't work well for Tamiya.

I’ve tried water, other brand thinners, metho, iso alcohol etc but keep going back to Tamiya thinners x20a because it just works.

I found a recipe on the internet using iso etc which apparently makes x20a for less than half the price but haven’t tried it yet.

I bought a bunch of the large plastic bottles of x20a from sealmodel before the “shortage” so haven’t had to worry about running out......especially at my build rate!

Windex shower and bath. Also works for cleaning your shower and Gunze Aqueous.

I've been using Metho exclusively with Tamiya acrylics & it's been working brilliantly for me. What proportion do you thin? I do approx 50/50.

Thanks guys, may have to go with the Tamiya brand thinner but is a bit expensive.

I tend to thin about 60/40 paint to thinner. When I last used Metho the paint washed off!

Edit: should say, when I last used metho with Tamiya acrylic paint, it washed off. I have found it works very well with Gunze

I use metho to thin my paint too. It works just as well as the proper thinner for my airbrush anyway.
