Cessna Bird Dog VH-SCB

Postby davec » Sat Sep 19, 2020 8:32 am

I'm getting material together on this aircraft, hopefully to do decals for her current markings (doing power line inspections for Essential Energy). None of the photos I have shows it clearly, but it seems that there are no rego markings at all on the wings. This is unusual - I would have thought that she would have a rego under the port wing, at least. Can anyone confirm one way or the other, please, or better yet provide a picture?
And so it was that later, as the miller told his tale,
That her face, at first just ghostly, turned a whiter shade of pale.

I can't help with that aircraft, but we live close to a couple of 33kV transmission routes and many of the inspection aircraft seems to be unmarked and do not squawk ADS-B.

I don't know why.

It's not unusual for warbirds to lack registration markings on wings.

Clearly none on the upper wings in published photos.
I'm not older than dirt, but I do remember when it was new.

Thanks to you both.

I'll go without wing markings - if I find out later that she has them, I can always put them on ...

Ahhh, I just googled the title of this thread and the 3rd image shown was this Dave in warbird markings and then this one on the Oberon Aviation site.

and another

Looks like the top of the wings still have the USAF markings on it

Thanks, Ray - that's a different scheme from the one I saw! In the pictures I have the "Aerial Patrol" lettering is smaller, in dark blue and without the yellow background, and the Essential Energy logo has been moved under it. The rego is on the fin, and there is no "O-12" marking. Still the basic grey, though ... I suspect she's had a repaint in the interim.
I may just go with your scheme - it's brighter!

If you want brighter, you could go with VH-UXX.

Thanks, Peter. I want to do 'SCB because it flew over my place a month or so back, at dot feet, along the power line running past my front gate. But that scheme on 'UXX is nice - I might have to get another kit ...
